It has an area of 11,586 square kilometers and is home to over 2. 6 million people. Qatar’s geography is characterized by its arid desert climate with a few areas of low-lying coastal plains. The highest point in Qatar is Qurayn Abu al Bawl at 103 meters above sea level. The country also has several natural features such as the Al Shamal Sands which are made up of sand dunes stretching from Qatar to Saudi Arabia and the Umm Tais salt flats which are home to many species of migratory birds in winter months. Education in Qatar has been highly prioritized for many years as it is seen as a key factor for economic development and progress. Primary education consists of six years of schooling from grades 1-6 while secondary education comprises four years from grades 7-10. At this level students can specialize in technical-vocational courses or pursue higher education at universities or colleges which offer degrees such as bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctorates, and postgraduate studies.
