According to wholevehicles, Niger is a landlocked West African country located in the Sahel region. It is bordered by Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali. The country covers an area of 1. 267 million square kilometers and has a population of around 22 million people as of 2020. The capital city is Niamey, located in the south-west of the country on the banks of the Niger River. The geography of Niger consists mostly of arid desert and semi-desert regions with some grasslands in the south and mountainous terrain in the north-east. The Sahara Desert covers much of northern Niger while the Aïr Mountains are situated in the north-east near Agadez. Education in Niger is provided by both public and private institutions. Primary education (6-12 years old) is free and compulsory for children aged 6 to 12 but due to poverty many children remain out of school or drop out early to work for their families or pursue other activities such as begging or trading on street markets. Secondary education (13-18 years old) consists of two cycles: lower secondary (collège) which lasts for 4 years followed by upper secondary (lycée) which lasts for 3 years culminating with a final exam known as Baccalauréat which students must pass to gain access to tertiary level education. Tertiary level education includes universities offering degree programs across numerous disciplines such as engineering, medicine and business studies as well as private colleges providing courses ranging from certificates through to postgraduate degrees such as Masters or Doctorates. There are currently five universities across Niger providing higher education opportunities for students from all over West Africa. Check educationvv for Niger Education and Training.
