St. Maarten is a popular holiday destination that is visited on Caribbean cruises. The cruise ships dock in the morning, the tourists can spend the day on the island and in the evening the ship sets off again. As a result, there are only a few tourists on the island in the evening and, especially in the Dutch part, the capital Philipsburg is deserted in the evenings.
St. Maarten attracts many so-called plane spotters. Maho Beach is located directly at the airport, there you can watch landing planes very close, as they come down only a few meters above the beach and touch down on the runway that begins directly behind it.
