Rhodes, Greece Weather and Climate
With around 1,400 square kilometers, Rhodes is the fourth largest Greek island. It is located in the Aegean Sea only about 10 kilometers from the Turkish coast and is home to around 125,000 residents. More than half of the population lives in the capital Rhodes City, which is also the economic and tourist center of the island.
The official language is Greek, the national currency is the euro. Rhodes is about 430 kilometers away from the Greek capital Athens. Rhodes has its own international airport in the northwest of the island (Paradeissi), which makes the journey very comfortable. Several airlines and charter planes connect Rhodes with Germany several times a day.
At 1215 meters, the Attavyros mountain is the highest elevation on Rhodes, and overall the landscape in the interior of the island is very mountainous. We recommend the summer months from June to September as the best time to travel to Rhodes, with up to 13 hours of sunshine and an air temperature of up to 23 degrees at night. Rhodes not only offers fabulous beaches, but also a multitude of cultural sights and testimonies of bygone days. As an unconditional recommendation, we recommend the magnificent Grand Master’s Palace and the well-preserved city walls of Rhodes City. A very special highlight is the Acropolis of Lindos, the white houses in the picturesque town of Lindos are also well worth seeing.
Both windsurfers and kite surfers can use the wind perfectly for their sport in Ialysos, on the beach on the Prasonissi peninsula. Another highlight is the motocross track in Faliraki. The neighboring island of Symi is ideal for a day trip, here you can marvel at the clearest water in the Mediterranean.
