Geographical location

Abbreviated as ENG by abbreviationfinder, England is in northwestern Europe. England is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. England borders Scotland to the north and Wales to the west.

Over 54 million people live in an area of around 130,000 square kilometers. This results in a population density of 417 inhabitants per square kilometer. In comparison: in Germany about 227 people live on one square kilometer.

However, this makes England the most densely populated country within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It is a parliamentary monarchy. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, but the Prime Minister is the head of government. The capital London, the third largest city in Europe after Moscow and Istanbul, can be reached by plane from Düsseldorf in around 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Climate in England

England represents the south of Great Britain. This region is characterized by a humid oceanic climate. The weather is characterized by moderately warm summers and cool winter months. The Gulf Stream has a very strong influence on the climate. Due to the island location, very changeable weather can be expected all year round.

The south west of England is particularly shaped by the Gulf Stream. This ocean current transports a lot of warm air and ensures, among other things, that the winter months do not get colder than 8 ° C. Even after dusk, temperatures usually do not drop below zero ° C.

In the summer months, the temperatures in London rise to a maximum of 22 degrees, in Liverpool up to 20 degrees. In the north of England there is more rainfall during the year than in the southern regions. Here you can only expect 500 millimeters of rain per year.

When to go to England

The winter months in England are characterized by very little sunlight. Short days and a lot of rain make for an uncomfortable atmosphere. The best time to travel to England is from June to September. These months are characterized by lower rainfall than the spring and winter months. In addition, the temperatures are much more pleasant.

In England there seems to be a real summer with over 20 ° C and up to seven hours of sunshine a day. The spring month of May is recommended for all nature and botany lovers. Gardens and parks wrap themselves in colorful clothes and offer wonderful backdrops for long walks and hikes. If you prefer to go to the cities, you should opt for a trip in the summer months for climatic reasons.

Unfortunately, the good weather also brings with it a large number of people. So you should plan waiting times for many highlights and attractions, especially in the capital London. However, this does not spoil the experience in this wonderful city.
