Dubai, United Arab Emirates Weather and Climate

Geographical location

With around 2 million inhabitants, Dubai is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and also the capital of the Emirates Dubai. According to abbreviationfinder, Dubai is located in the north of the country directly on the Persian Gulf. Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are the closest other states.

Dubai is about 4500 kilometers away from Germany and is reached by several airlines (including Lufthansa, Emirates) by non-stop flight in around 6.5 hours. There are only a few other large cities in the vast desert of the Emirates; the closest city is Abu Dhabi, about 100 kilometers to the southwest.

It is almost 400 kilometers to the east to Muscat in Oman, and Doha in Qatar is roughly the same distance to the west. The most important vacation spots in the United Arab Emirates are, besides Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the neighboring Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Fujairah.

The climate in Dubai

Dubai has a very distinctive desert climate, it is very dry and hot all year round. In summer (May – September) temperatures over 40 ° C can be reached regularly, the daily average temperature is already over 30 ° C during this time, as it hardly cools down even at night.

Even in winter it is still pleasantly warm in Dubai, the lowest temperatures are around 15 ° C. During the day, even in the coldest month of January, a pleasant 24 degrees are reached. The water temperature fluctuates between 21 and 32 degrees over the course of the year. At these temperatures you can bathe comfortably 365 days a year.

In Dubai it is extremely dry, in the summer months there is almost no rainfall, even in winter and spring it rains very little. There is no natural snow in winter, but there is an artificially created ski area in the “Mall of the Emirates”.

According to the aforementioned climatic conditions, the weather in Dubai is very bright and sunny all year round, in the summer months the sun shines an average of 10 to 11 hours per day, in winter it is still 8 hours.

When to go to Dubai

Since there is no rainy season and no storms in Dubai, a trip throughout the year is basically possible. However, especially in summer, it is so extremely hot in the United Arab Emirates that the temperatures are perceived by some people as uncomfortable. On the other hand, due to the heat, the hotels are now luring with enormous discounts and offers, even during the holiday season.

However, we recommend the winter and spring months as the best time to travel to Dubai (UAE), as these times of the year are most pleasant in Dubai. Specifically, you can from December and April expect between 24 and 32 degrees with 8 to 10 hours of sunshine. At night it cools down comfortably, but nobody has to freeze. The coldest month in Dubai is January, which is the only travel time that is not always suitable for swimming.

City highlights

Over the past 25 years, Dubai has developed from a blank spot on the map to an absolute high-tech metropolis. There you will find huge shopping centers like the Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, gigantic skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world) and spectacular hotels like the Burj Al Arab.

The other prestigious property among the local luxury hotels, the world-famous Atlantis The Palm, is located on a huge, palm-shaped island by the sea, piled up with sand. It is one of the most important sights in Dubai.

A boat trip on Dubai Creek, a shopping spree in the gold and spice souks or a walk along the impressive yachts at the Dubai Marina are also a must. The Burj Khalifa is not only attracted by the breathtaking viewing platform at lofty heights, but also by the fountain water show on the ground.
