About half of them live in Vaitape on the west side of the island, the largest town in Bora Bora. Mont Otemanu, the highest point at 727 meters, is the central point of the Pacific Atoll. Bora Bora is mainly based on tourism and is therefore very well developed in terms of infrastructure and well prepared for foreign visitors.

A large number of high-class luxury resorts have settled mainly along the breathtaking lagoon, many of them offer water bungalows that were built on stilts in the ocean. These include such well-known chains as Sofitel, Four Seasons, Conrad by Hilton, St. Regis and Intercontinental.

Not only the main town of Bora Bora is easily accessible, but also surrounding villages such as the former ruler’s seat Fa’anui in the northwest. All over the atoll there are small and large plantations, for example with coconut palms, Tahitian chestnuts or breadfruit trees.

The most widely spoken language in Bora Bora is French, and most of the residents also speak English or Tahitian. The atoll can be reached by flight from Tahiti, the flight length is approx. 45 minutes. There are also ferry connections.

Climate on Bora Bora

Located in the southern tropics, Bora Bora is subject to the so-called two-season rule. The year is divided into a drier, more moderate period and a humid, hot period. It is drier in French Polynesia between mid- May and mid- October, with the islands seeing rainfall year-round. However, this does not spoil the joy of vacationing, but ensures the lush vegetation and the exceptionally beautiful scenery.

From November, the rainy season begins in Bora Bora, the amount of rain doubled at that time. Nevertheless, even in this period, from November to April, there is plenty of sunshine and mostly pleasant conditions. The humidity reaches betweenDecember and February are their high phase, it gets quite humid at times. The water temperatures are constant at a warm 27 to 29 degrees.

When is the best time to visit Bora Bora?

The main tourist season on Bora Bora begins in June and ends with the slightly increasing rainy days in mid- September. Especially the transition months between the two seasons, i.e. April and May on the one hand and the second half of September and October on the other, are ideal for a visit to the enchanting island world.

We therefore recommend the entire period from mid-April to the end of October as the best travel time for Bora Bora. The highest prices, not least because of the school holidays in France, are called in July and August. In addition, the summer months are of course the main travel time for honeymoons.

The annual average temperature is 27.1 ° C. For comparison: Munich reaches an average of 8.6 ° C, in Berlin it is 9.6 ° C. The warmest month is March (28.5 ° C), coldest month of July with average values of 26 ° C. The maximum water temperature is 29 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. All months have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.

Precipitation

The annual precipitation is 1884 mm on 111 days with precipitation. For comparison: In Munich, 967 mm, in Berlin 570 mm, precipitation is measured annually. The months of January, February, March, April, November and December are considered the rainy season, as more than 175 mm of precipitation can be expected per month. Overall, about 1347 mm of precipitation can be expected in the rainy season. Snowfall is generally not expected in any month.

Sunshine

As our climate table shows, July is the sunniest month with an average of 9 hours of sunshine per day. The average annual sun shines 7.6 hours per day. For comparison: In Munich and Berlin, the sun shines an average of 4.7 hours per day throughout the year.
