In my previous years one of my most meaningful, and impressionable experiences was to serve as a Marine. Upon being honorably discharged from the USMC, I advanced through the ranks of the Fire Service to the position of Fire Chief. I assisted in the creation of the Charleston County Emergency Medical Service and became the assistant Director, Paramedic, and training officer. My experiences as a Marine, as a Fire fighter, and as a Paramedic have all served me well and have shaped my belief systems, my personality, my personal and professional ethics and in deed, due to my experiences, the type of therapy that I presently provide for my patients. In preparing for my psychological career, I graduated from the college of charleston with a BS degree in Psychology, from The Citadel with a M.ed. In Counseling, and from Lasalle university with a P.hd. In Psychology. My first job in the psychological profession was with the Charleston Memorial Hospital. I served as a psychiatric therapist on the locked psychiatric unit. Due to my experiences on the CMH Psychiatric unit, I came to realize that the psychiatric patients experienced horrifying symptoms. I also became aware that no matter how bad the symptoms, the patients would come through the most difficult times of their illness, with appreciation for those who assisted them, an presenting with kindness, and a strong determination and will to survive and to live their life in as normal a manner as they possibly could. It was at that time that I came to know, with no doubt, that I not only wanted to provide therapy for families and individuals that are experiencing the normal troubles of daily life but also to co-specialize in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Since my introduction to psychiatry, I have worked for the South Carolina Mental Health agency as a case manager and counselor, as an Emergency Psychiatric Diagnostician for the Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton County Emergency Rooms, and as a Psychiatric Emergency Clinician with Mobile Crisis (This is the team that responds to patients having psychiatric emergencies). Some of the situations I have responded to are hostage situations, patients threatening to jump off of Bridges and tall buildings, suicide attempts, suicides and homicides. Along the way I have spent many hours counseling those who are working through daily difficulties that families and individuals frequently experience. In my private practice I offer a full range of therapies and psychological testing. I provide psychological and psychiatric therapy, counseling and testing for children age 10 and up, as well as families, couples and groups. I regularly work with those who suffer with mood and anxiety disorders, addictions, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, anger management problems, grief/loss issues, relationship difficulties, work, school, and social issues, and those who have found themselves in violation of the law. I merge the very latest of technology and techniques into the therapeutic procedures that I use In the treatment of my patients.
